The United Way of Jamaica is committed to broadening the base of charitable giving by involving all segments of the society through an effective annual fund-raising campaign.

The Campaign Cabinet, which comprises volunteers from all sectors of the economy, mobilizes resources from corporations, individuals and employees through payroll deductions.

A limited number of special events are undertaken by the Women’s Leadership Initiative in support of Early Childhood programmes.

The 2007 Campaign Cabinet, under the leadership of Mr. Neville Blythe, mobilized $83.3 million. Corporate Giving accounted for 87% of the total campaign, Personal Giving accounted for 4% and Employee Giving accounted for 9%.

Four donors qualified for Jupiter Awards in the 2007 Campaign: Victoria Mutual Building Society, Jamaica National Building Society, Marubeni/JPS and Ambassadors Sue & Charles Cobb.

Major Gifts Initiative

The United Way of Jamaica was selected as one of the seven pilots by United Way International for a Major Gifts Programme to target individuals of high net worth in participating countries. The goal for the United Way of Jamaica in 2007/2008 is to get five individual donors giving US$10,000 each. This initiative was significantly boosted with the American Friends of Jamaica's decision to match the first five contributions of US$10,000 each. Proceeds from 2007/2008 will support Early Childhood Institutions.

Workplace Philanthropy

Every employed person can be engaged in Workplace Philanthropy. The goal for United Way of Jamaica is to enlist the support of 100,000 employed persons, each giving an average of $100 per month.

United Way of Jamaica recognizes outstanding participation within companies. Over 25% level of participation qualifies the company for a Bronze Award; Over 50% participation qualifies for Silver Award and over 75% participation qualifies for a Gold Award.
