- United Way of Jamaica has a New Chairman
 |
On December
20, 2007 The United Way of Jamaica elected a new Chairman
of the Board of Governors, Mr. Noel daCosta.
Mr.
daCosta is the Corporate Relations Director, Central
America Free Trade Ecuador & Caribbean (CAFEC)
at Diageo and former Chairman of the Jamaica Chamber
of Commerc.

- United Way assists with Hurricane
Dean Restoration
Pledges totaling $26.7 million
were received for the Hurricane Dean Restoration Fund.
Among the major Donors were Marubeni/JPS - $6.9m;
Environmental Foundation of Jamaica - $7m, to replace
equipment and material in early childhood institutions;
Grace Kennedy - $7m, to assist agricultural sector
and non-governmental organization; and PricewaterhouseCoopers
- $2m.
Some of the beneficiaries of the fund were:

- Jamaica Fishermen Cooperative Union
Ltd.
- Georges Valley Community Council
- Jamaica Society for
the Blind
- Children & Community for Change
- The United Church in Jamaica & the Cayman Islands
- Women’s Centre of Jamaica Foundation

- Citizens Advice Bureau
- Young Women’s Christian Association
- Ministry of National Security (for Old Harbour Bay

in support of United Way of Jamaica
| More than 20 reggae artistes
met on November 21, 2007 and agreed to lend their support
for a concert in 2008. Among those pledging their support
were: Tony Rebel, Chair of the Entertainment & Culture Sector – United
Way of Jamaica, Ritchie Stephens, Tarrus Riley, Queen
Ifrica, Lutan Fyah, Donovan Germaine, Jimmy Riley, Charlie
Chaplin, Warrior King, and Wayne Marshall. |
