Since the
organization’s inception in 1985, over $900m has
been disbursed to more than 3997 agencies, institutions
and projects islandwide to implement income generating
, skills training, agriculture, health and community
development programme and hurricane restoration efforts.
In 2004, following Hurricane
Ivan, the United Way of Jamaica mobilized over J$300 million
to assist in restoration programmes. National Commercial
Bank was the major partner in this initiative with their
challenge matching grant of $100 million.
Any registered private voluntary
organization may apply for grant funds from the United
Way of Jamaica.
Every two years, priority areas for funding are established. The current priorities
are:
- Early Childhood Education
- Health
- Community Development- Skills
Training
There are two allocation
cycles per year. Applications when received are processed
at the Secretariat; site visits are done and panel hearings
conducted before they are considered by the Allocations
Committee.
Criteria for Funding
- The organization should be a Registered
Private Voluntary Organization or where the applicant
is not registered, a letter from a Sponsor which is registered
must be made available.
- The organization must submit a completed
Proposal form, signed by CEO and accompanied by Articles
of Association, Certificate of Registration, Audited
Accounts, list of Board Members.
